Working with 4th Dimension can be a real challenge to non-programmers such as myself. The Personnel database on which the 4D tutorial is based seems intended to demonstrate as many different features of the program as possible rather than to provide an introduction to 4D programming, so I thought I'd upload a clone of a database I've been using to learn 4D in the interest of demonstrating some 4D programming fundamentals. While making no claim of programming elegance, the simple procedures contained in this database work and might be helpful to people trying to understand the basic concepts behind buttons and custom layouts. The effort it took to produce this simple database was both significant and rewarding...not to mention addicting. 4th Dimension _is_ a great program.
The program opens in the Custom environment. Select 'quit' to get to User. 'List and modify' menu choices present a list of selected items; double-click on an item to modify it from the input layout. Most effort was put into the checking account and 'items' files; names/addresses is still in rudimentary form.
Comments, questions, and suggestions for improvement are welcome. Hopefully, some of you will be able to learn a few things from this example and others will teach _me_ something.
